Out of 586 MPs candidates for this year 2012 election, only 38 women were fielded among and the rest are male.
Giving a breakdown of the figures for MPs, Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates for 2007 and 2012, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Chairperson Christiana Thorpe disclosed that for 2007, MPs were 566 out of this figure, 64 were female and 502 male, with 12 independent candidates for 2007 and 38 for 2012.
