As part of the the Japanese Emergency Grant Aid in response to the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the Republic of Sierra Leone, a list of items worth over four Million Dollars has been procured through Crown Agent Company and handed over to the National Ebola Response Team headed by Retired Major Alimamy P. Bangura.
The first consignment of these items, eighty four cartoons of hand washing soap liquid (0.5Litres), eighty six cartoons of Gloves, heavy duty, rubber pair, twenty six cartoons of surgical N95 respirator/mask, four cartoons of sphygmomanometer, Aneriod, thirteen cartoons of Sterilizer(autoclave), ten cartoons of body bag (plastic stretcher and corpse sheet), twenty cartoons of Pulse Oximeter, seventeen cartoons of Non contact IR thermometer, ten cartoons of Goggles protective, three cartoons of Face shield and one hundred and twenty cartoons of Sprayer, and Backpack were handed over to the Chief Executive Officer on the National Ebola Response Team by the Crown Agents Regional Manager Middle East and North Africa `Martin Daniels at the Njala Gate Warehouse, Wellington Industrial Estate in Freetown.
According to the Crown Agents Country Representative Gaiva Paul Lavaly, on 7th November, 2014 the Government of Japan decided to provide the above grant to help in the fight against the Ebola Virus in the country.
Crown Agents was approved as the procurement agent for the supplying of the much needed materials and equipment for onward shipment to Sierra Leone. It was noted that shipment of the goods was not an easy task as it was stocked at Dakar and had to be freighted by DHL to Sierra Leone. The other consignment was freighted through one of DFID flights.
It is expected that more bulky equipment and medical materials are on the high seas and are due in the country very soon.
Prior to the handing over ceremony, Dr. Sheku Sesay expressed gratitude to the Government and People of Japan, Crown Agents and DFID for their various strides towards the fight against the Ebola Virus and prayed that this crisis would soon be a thing of the past so that we all return to our normal lives.
The Chief Executive Officer of NERC Retired Major Alimany P.Conteh on behalf of the Government and People of Sierra Leone expressed thanks and appreciation to the Government of Japan, Crown Agents and DFID for their support during this crisis period and prayed that with the cooperation of all we would soon defeat the Ebola virus.
He recalled the various gains made by his team since taking over the mantle of leadership at NERC.
The Chief Executive Officer of NERC furthered that the battle is not yet over as this is a crucial moment to observe the preventive measures given by the experts so that we start to record the zero cases in the country.
With this donation, Retired Major Alimamy P Conteh noted that most of the items or equipment would be used for the post Ebola era to strengthen our health sector.
The program was climaxed with the inspection of the various cartoons of items donated by the Japanese Government through JICA.
